Welcome to our Autism Friendly School's initiative. This is a three year programme run by the AsIAm charity. The aim of the programme is to support schools with the provision of inclusive education for autistic children. Teachers will learn best practice in order to remove barriers to children's learning. Many of the strategies involved will help all children to reach their potential and not just benefit autistic individuals.
Year One
In June we recieved our first certificate of completion. Year One has been about finding our feet. Identifying areas where we feel the greatest impact can be made and setting up our working group. An email was sent out to both staff and parents looking for those interested in joining our group. We recently held our first meeting where we set targets for next year.
In order to become more inclusive the school has purchased three communication boards for both indoors and outdoors. These boards will help children to communicate their needs when speech is difficult or if they prefer to communicate through pictures or symbols.
We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress over the remaining 2 years.
