1st Class

Welcome to St. Mary's Woodside NS First Class group of 2022-2023. In First Class, we welcome you to our busy hive of activity. Every day, a new adventure in learning, fun and games begins. Have a look below to see what we have been up to recently!

Collaborative Play

Every day in First Class, we get the chance to work together as a team to turn some really cool ideas into amazing items, constructions and designs. We love working as a team to make many things, such as houses, towers, rockets and even dinosaurs! Check out some pictures of our latest efforts below.

The Tortoise and the Hare

Recently, we have been reading the story of The Hare and The Tortoise by Brian Wildsmith. We really enjoyed the story, especially how patience and persistence will get us to our own finish lines when we are ready.

We were inspired by the animations in the book so we decided to remake the main characters through the medium of mosaic art. It was really good fun to create these pieces. We hope you like them.

Active Week 2022

Senior Infants are very excited for active week this year!

We have been learning about all the different ways to stay healthy. The class agreed that one of the most important ways was to keep a balanced diet.

Today we examined the food pyramid and discussed food groups we should be eating a lot of and foods we should only have sparingly.

We then used food catalogues to cut, stick and sort food into healthy and unhealthy categories.

Collaborative Cubism

This week we have been learning all about Cubism and Abstract Art. We looked at some amazing pieces by an artist called Paul Klee and were inspired to create our own masterpieces.

We worked in pairs and small groups to create our abstract pieces and gave each one a title.

Enjoy our beautiful art gallery.

Senior Infants have been learning about all things Sports related.

We have been very busy building race tracks for cars and bikes, designing sports kits, acting during role play in the sports shop: buying and selling sports equipment and completing playdough challenges based on 'sports day' activities.

Have a look at some of our amazing creations.
