🌟 Welcome Back to 5th Class – September 2025

We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back to 5th Class this September for what promises to be a fun, busy and rewarding year.

Fifth class is an exciting step for the children, with increased independence, new responsibilities and plenty of opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. Throughout the year, we will continue to place a strong emphasis on both academic learning and pupil wellbeing.

What to expect this year:

A positive, supportive classroom environment

Active learning and movement breaks throughout the day
Opportunities for teamwork, responsibility and leadership
A focus on wellbeing, respect and enjoyment of school

🚪 5th Class Door Display – All About Me

At the start of the year, we created an “All About Me” door display to help everyone get to know each other better.

We shared things that make us who we are, including our:

interests and hobbies
favourite things
talents and achievements
what makes us unique

Designing our own pieces was a fun way to express ourselves and feel proud of who we are. Our classroom door is now full of colour, personality and creativity and is a great reminder that everyone in 5th Class is different — and that’s what makes our class special.

🎨 Art in 5th Class – Typography

In Art this week, we learned about typography and how letters can be turned into art. We discovered that different fonts and letter styles can show mood, meaning and personality.

We enjoyed:

making bold and decorative letters
changing the size and shape of letters
designing our own words and phrases in a style that suited us

Everyone’s work was different and showed our own ideas and creativity. We really enjoyed experimenting with lettering and were proud of our finished pieces, which were full of colour, imagination and individuality.

🎨 Art in 5th Class – My Emotions as Colours

In Art this week, we explored “My Emotions as Colours.” We talked about how different colours can represent how we feel and how emotions can change.

We chose colours to show feelings such as happiness, calm, excitement, worry and anger. Some of us used bright colours, while others used darker or softer shades. We also used lines, shapes and patterns to help show our emotions.

Everyone’s artwork was different, because everyone feels emotions in their own way. We really enjoyed sharing our work and explaining the colours we chose.

This lesson helped us to be creative, to think about our feelings and to express ourselves through art.

🎨 Art in 5th Class – A Sense of Autumn

In Art this week, we explored “A Sense of Autumn.” We talked about the colours, shapes and feelings we associate with the autumn season.

We used:

warm autumn colours like reds, oranges, yellows and browns
different lines, textures and patterns
our imagination to show what autumn looks and feels like to us

Everyone’s artwork was different and showed our own ideas of autumn. We really enjoyed creating our pieces and were proud of the finished work, which captured the atmosphere and mood of the season.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga in 5th Class – Wellbeing Week

As part of Wellbeing Week, we took part in a yoga lesson in the hall with a visiting instructor.

We learned different yoga poses, practised our balance and focused on our breathing. The session helped us to relax, stretch our bodies and clear our minds. Some poses were challenging, but we enjoyed giving them a go and supporting each other.

We really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and how yoga helped us feel relaxed and focused. It was a lovely way to look after our wellbeing and take a break from our busy school day.

📚 Project Work in 5th Class

In 5th Class, we have been busy working on our project work. We researched different topics, gathered information and presented our learning in creative ways.

We learned how to:

find key information
organise our work clearly
use pictures, headings and facts to support our ideas
work independently and take pride in our learning

Everyone put a lot of effort into their projects and enjoyed sharing them with the class. We were proud of our finished work and learned lots from each other along the way.

🍕 End of Term Surprise – Pizza Party!

To celebrate all of our hard work this term, 5th Class enjoyed a surprise pizza party!

We had so much fun sharing food, chatting with friends, and celebrating everything we achieved this term. It was a great way to relax, laugh together, and end the term on a happy note.

We are really proud of all the effort, teamwork, and kindness shown by everyone this term — and the pizza party was the perfect way to celebrate it!

🎁 Secret Santa in 5th Class

We had great fun taking part in Secret Santa in 5th Class. Everyone exchanged gifts and tried to guess who their Secret Santa was.

There was lots of excitement, laughter and surprise as presents were opened. We really enjoyed seeing the thoughtful and kind gifts that were chosen for each other.

It was a lovely activity that reminded us about kindness, giving and thinking of others, and it helped to create a happy, festive atmosphere in the classroom.

🔬 Visit to St. Tiernan’s Secondary School

5th Class were invited to St. Tiernan’s Secondary School where we took part in some exciting science experiments with the wonderful Mr. Curry.

We loved working in the science labs and getting a chance to try out experiments we wouldn’t normally do in primary school. We learned new scientific ideas, asked lots of questions and had great fun experimenting and exploring.

It was a brilliant experience and gave us a great insight into what science is like at secondary school. We really enjoyed the visit and would like to say a big thank you to Mr. Curry and everyone at St. Tiernan’s for welcoming us.

Nature Walk

Fourth class made the most of our locality and the nice weather by going to Fern Hill on a nature walk. Here wer explored the woods and found native Irish trees amongst many other things on our scavenger hunt!

Shadows

In science fourth class have been learning about light and how shadows are made, we explored this on the yard and in our classroom.

3rd class had a great day out competing in the Andy Gibbons Cup competition. Fantastic effort put in by all students ! Maith sibh :)

Over the past number of weeks, the 3rd class pupils have had lots of fun learning about the Spanish language and culture with Ms. Hannigan through the Languages Connect programme being run in our school.

Third class used their knowledge of 2-D and 3-D shapes to construct their own haunted houses.

Happy Halloween !

Over the last two weeks, the students have sculpted and painted their very own Halloween monsters.

3-D shapes

This week, we have been learning about 3-D shapes. The students used blu tack and cocktail sticks to make their own shapes.

Maths Week 2023 !

This week, the students engaged lots of fun tasks and activities to celebrate maths week. The students learnt a new card game, solved tangram puzzles and practised their estimation skills.

Chinese New Year

This week we have been learning all about China and celebrating Chinese New Year. It's the Year of the Rabbit! We completed a report file on the country, practiced our numbers 1-10 in Mandarin and even mastered using chopsticks!

Clay Models

We have been practicing all the techniques for manipulating clay. Check out our fantastic models. We can't wait for them to dry so that we can decorate them. Check back in with us see the results!

Nature Walk & Art

2nd class took advantage of the good weather and went on a nature walk to Fernhill to see the change of seasons and create some art using what was available in nature.

PE Games

We created our own PE games using just a hula hoop, racket and bean bag. It was lots of fun!

2D & 3D SHAPES

2nd Class have been looking at and examining 2D/3D shapes. We had so much fun creating them with our bodies! :)
