Third Class
Ms. Lucey
What a fun week we have had!! We headed off on Wednesday to The Crystal Maze in Meath. We worked really hard in our teams to earn crystals for completing a variety physical, mental and skills-based challenges. Due to our wonderful teamwork, communication and encouragement we managed to get the number of crystals we needed to take the Crystal Trophy back to the school! Well done everyone! We finished off our week with an ice-cream day and dancing in the yard! A big thanks to our Parents' Association for providing the delicious ice-cream on such a hot, sunny day! What a treat!
We Love Comics!!
We really enjoyed our visit from the comic book author Dave Roman! Dave spoke to us about how he became interested in comics and how he went about writing comics and creating characters. He even invited two of our class up to create their own comic book characters - both did a fantastic job! We were so inspired by what Dave had to say that we created our own comics. Keep an eye for the final products!

Seachtain na Gaeilge & Lá Fhéile Pádraig!
In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, we made leprechauns and hats. We sang 'An Maith libh Rock and Roll?' agus 'Amhrán na bhFiann' and recited 'An Leipreachán Amaideach' for our Seó Scoile on Friday. We had great fun! Well done to all classes on a great show! We also participated in a 'Comórtas Ealaíne' and the standard was very high indeed! A special congratulations to our winner below. Maith sibh go léir!

Andy Gibbon's Hurling Tournament!
Some of the boys and girls from both of the Third classes played in the Andy Gibbon's Hurling Tournament recently. They won some games, lost some and drew some, but most importantly they had great fun! They played in a very exciting final on Thursday. Having taken an early lead, they found themselves 3-1 down but they never gave up and worked so hard, scoring two more goals. The match ended in a draw and so it went to penalties. It went right down to the wire and they finished as runners-up in the competition. We are extremely proud of the boys and girls for all their efforts. Above all, everyone went home with a big smile on their face!!

World Book Day!
There were fantastic costumes on display in our class when we celebrated World Book Day! Well done to you all for putting in such a great effort! We discussed our favourite books and our favourite characters from wide variety of books. We also had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair and watch a video of famous authors speaking about their books. It's amazing where some ideas for stories can come from. Jot down and draw your ideas! Who knows.....we could be reading books written by some budding writers from our own class in years to come!!

Come On You Girls In Blue!
We had a very sepcial visit from Rachel Ruddy of the Dublin Senior Ladies Football Team. Rachel brought in the All Ireland Cup, the Brendan Martin Cup, that the Dublin team won back in September. She spoke about her involvement in sport, particularly in gaelic football, from when she was a young girl right up to today. She told us all about what it takes to play for Dublin and what we need to do if we would like to play for Dublin some day. Rachel also brought in her All Star Award which she received at the awards night at the end of November. Well done Rachel and to all the ladies invovled in the Dublin panel on a fantastic year!

What can we say....Ancient Egypt was one of our favourite topics so far! From our group projects, Egyptian headdresses and Pharoahs to exploring the Egyptian Gods, the mummification process, Tutankhamun and lots more!
We had a lot of fun investigating air, from making bubbles to walking on air!! There was a lot of debate and discussion on one particular question though!! What do you think....does air take up space?!
We have been busy exploring 3D shapes! We made and examined 3D shapes in class and then went exploring to see what 3D shapes we could find around the school! What 3D shapes can you spot at home?!
Up the Dubs!
What an exciting weekend! We all wore our blue to school on Friday to support the Dubs in the All-Ireland Football Final! We are looking forward to a visit from the Sam Maguire in the coming weeks!

We had great fun playing lots of different Maths games. We played loop games, board games, completed target boards and worked in pairs to solve some written problems on our whiteboards. We remembered to use the RUDE strategy when solving the problems - Read, Underline, Draw and Estimate! Of course we didn't forget to check our solution at the end! |

Our bodies are amazing!! Your body is always moving, even when you are asleep! Our muscles, bones, joints, nerves and brain all work as a team to help us to move. Do you know what the smallest bone in your body is? That's right! It's the stirrup. It's located in your ear and is about the size of a grain of rice! The longest bone in your body is the femur which runs from your hip to your knee. Our ribs, spine (all 33 bones) and skull all have important jobs. Some help to protect our organs while others allow us to move. We did a taste test to check if our taste buds could identify particular tastes. Can you guess which foods were bitter, sweet, sour or salty?!
Maths Week!
What a week we had during Maths Week! We solved and created problems, played lots of different games, explored 3D shapes in mystery boxes (there were lots of extra surprises in the boxes!! Yuck!) and we realised we are wonderful bakers! Have a look at our delicious soda bread below!
Happy Hallowe'en!!
We had great fun in the lead up to Hallowe'en!
