Term 1 (2014/2015)
Christmas Celebrations 2014!
- St. Mary's N.S. Christmas Celebration took place on Thursday 11th December 2014 in St. Mary's Church Sandyford. Children from First to Sixth Class reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas as they recalled the Christmas story and performed some Christmas Carols and Hymns. We were delighted when Fr. Gerry treated us to some festive sing-a-long fun on the night!
- Junior and Senior Infants kicked off the festive season with their Christmas Carol Celebration on Tuesday 10th December at 11:30 a.m. in the Community Centre. The children sang an arrangement of Christmas Carols accompanied by a still image of a human crib, recited some festive favourite poems and ended with a medley of much loved Christmas Songs.
Panorama Christmas Competition
Congratulations to the pupils from second and sixth class whose work was printed in the December edition of the local Panorama magazine. Well done on all the pupils for their beautiful entries; your writing an illustrations captured the magic of Christmas.

Yellow Flag News!
Monday 15th September 2014
To all Students, Staff and Parents,
We would like to inform you that we have received confirmation that St Mary’s NS will be awarded its Yellow Flag in November. We would like to formally thank you all for your participation and support over the past year in order to make it happen. This award supports our ethos of inclusion and embracing people from all cultures, countries and backgrounds. It is a wonderful message to instil in the students for their future.
The assessment team was particularly impressed with how articulate the students on the diversity committee were in reporting about all the activities they had been part of during the year.
Also noted was the innovative ways the Yellow Flag Programme was brought into the curriculum, which showed that the Yellow Flag had really filtered down to the whole school and was embedded into the curriculum.
We were commended on the Yellow Flag Notice Board and the level of parental engagement on the Diversity Committee, and the formal recognition of the Parents’ Association.
Our Yellow Flag folder was noted as being of a very high standard, with ‘exceptional’ record keeping. This was only possible with the support of the teachers and students who provided the work and information to include in it.
Finally the assessment team recognised the huge changes that St. Mary’s has undergone over the past few years in terms of size and diversity of school population and the leadership shown by the principal in embracing this change in a positive way.
A special thanks must go to Ms Cathy Glynn who was the main driving force behind achieving this award.. We would like to acknowledge all she did and commend her for her outstanding organisational skills and support.
As you are all aware, promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity is an ongoing piece of work. We will be electing new members to the Diversity Committee this week and ask that if any parents would like to join that they come and see either Mrs Kalisa or Ms Cushen this week. In order to hold on to our Yellow Flag, there are certain criteria that we must achieve. We look forward to another successful year and will inform you when the award ceremony will take place.
Many thanks
Mrs B.R. Kalisa Ms Cushen
