Food Glorious Food!

We explored the theme of food in February. We went shopping everyday in the supermarket in our classroom and also visited the restaurant. We loved pretending to work in all these places. We had to sort, order and stack lots of different produce and loved counting money! The customers had lists of shopping they needed to collect and the waitresses were busy taking breakfast, dinner and drinks orders.

At the art station we created delicious burgers using fabric and fibre. We also used stencils to create some beautiful and textured vegetables and fruits.

We became chefs too and rustled up some delicious Rice Krispie buns to celebrate Valentine's Day.

We read the story of Handa's Surprise too. We had lost of fun learning about the delicious exotic fruits that grow in Africa and the cheeky animals that caused Handa's surprise. We tasted an abundance of tropical colourful fruits too. We had avocado, pomegranate, pineapple, mango and passion fruit. Pomegranate was the most enjoyed fruit! Whilst avocado proved to be the least popular (yuck!)

Junior Infants loved learning all about Vincent Van Gogh and his incredible masterpieces. We explored the painting of "Starry Night" In particular and listened to the song inspired by this magical painting. We recreated our own Starry Night masterpieces by creating swirling paintings using our fingers. It was great fun to get so messy. The clean up wasn't as much fun. Click on the links below to listen to the song "Starry Starry Night" and to witness the swirling magic of this creation.

Christmas Cardio

We love to sing and dance in our classroom. This year in our pursuit to attain the Active School Flag we love to learn a dance or two every month. It is really enjoyable and also keeps us healthy. We tried singing along with our dancing this Christmas! It was much more difficult!

Homes:

We are having great fun exploring and learning all about homes and different types of homes. We have written the story of the Three Little Pigs and illustrated our stories using Fabric and Fibres. We have explored how to build our own homes using blocks and straws and have even managed to bring a kitchen into our classroom.

We also read the story of A Squash and a Squeeze. Click here to listen to the story!

Counting, Patterns and Sorting

Maths is one of our favourite lessons each day! We love sorting, counting as well as extending and creating our very own patterns. Our sorting can be quite tricky and we love trying to trick our teacher. Last week she couldn't figure out how to sort out our transport vehicles because we had sorted them using two attributes; wheels and no wheels and colours!

A Visit from a True Champion and Idol

Rachel Ruddy came and spoke with the children about her lifetime achievements and engagement with ladies sport. She was a true inspiration for all the children and we loved the trophies she brought in! She won a GAA All Star award this year and was also on the Dublin Ladies Football Team who won the All Ireland this year.
