Fourth Class-Ms. Broderick
Welcome to Fourth Class

The Science Adventure continues!.......
Fourth class received an invitation to return to St.Tiernan's science lab for a further two lessons.
We visited the lab on Friday the 15th and 22nd of April and what an exciting time we had.

The children learned how to magnify objects using a microscope.
They recorded their observations by sketching at magnifications of X40, X100,X400

In our second lesson the children explored a list of metals and their reactive nature.
check out our AWESOME pictures!!!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

The class were involved in a lot of activities to highlight the importance of our National language and
to encourage its' use.
Among the activities throughout the week, the children were given the opportunity to converse with rang a ceathair from scoil Taobh na Coille.

ROCKS
we discovered that rocks can be classified into 3 main categories:

1. Igneous
2. Sedimentary
3. Metamorphic

These categories tell us a lot about how the rock was formed.

4th class have been studying all about Ancient Rome.
We researched the lives of the Romans such as their origins, daily lives, homes, work, military, trade, constructions, faith and beliefs, pastimes and cultural and artistic achievements.  Each child then carried out their own individual project on Rome.
Below are a selection of posters the children designed to advertise a Gladiator battle to be held at the colosseum.

The children worked scientifically using the skills of questioning, observation, predicting, analysing, investigating, recording and communicating to answer the two questions posed.

Experiment one: 'Will 'the bounce' of a squash ball be effected by temperature?'
Using a bunsen burner, a squash ball was heated repeatedly by 10 degrees and 'its bounce' recorded.

Experiment two: The children learned how to magnify objects using a microscope.
They recorded their observations by sketching at magnifications of X40, X100,X400.
